Another Trick to Conquer Place Value

I love place value. . . I think everyone should. . . but alas. . . not everyone does and not everyone understands it as quickly as we'd like them too.

I found this great post and I thought I'd share it with you too, just in case it would work for you and your kiddos.

Marcy from Saddle Up for 2nd Grade (and she is from Texas, wouldn't you know!) has a great way to get your kids up and moving in order to learn. Click HERE to find out more about it. I hope you love it.

More Sight Word Practice Ideas

Two years ago I subbed in my daughter-in-law's kindergarten classroom. That was a real stretch for me! But I did survive and am alive to tell about it.

Learning sight words was a huge undertaking for many students. I just came across a great blog post that shares some good quality and easy ideas to get those kids to practicing with their sight words.

If you click HERE, you'll go to Surfing Into Success's post about them.

Even if you're not a kindergarten teacher, I think you could use this with some of your student's who need extra practice.

Enjoy!

Help to Get You Ready for This Fall

Many of you will be starting school soon. If you're from Michigan, most of us won't start until the day after Labor Day. . . It's the law. . . however, some schools have been granted waivers so they can start before.

Anyway, I found this neat post about 6 Things You Must Do Now to get ready for next year. I think if you read it, you'll find some quality things here.

How to Organize Your Library

If you are like me, you have a ton of books in your classroom library. But do you have them organized? Do you like the way you have them organized? You could read The Teacher's Treasure Chest and see how Ashley organized her library. I think you'll like it.

(This is a repost from earlier this year and it has a giveaway at the end. . . so just skip over that part.)

July PInterest PIck 3

I'm joining with my friends from Pawsitively TeachingJust Reed, and Inspired Owl's Corner to share my top 3 July Picks. I hope you find something fun for yourself. Be sure to look at the list at the bottom of this post to see many other fun picks from other teachers.

There are many things that I could have chosen to share with you today. But I decided to showcase things that might take some time to get ready. And if you're like me, you have a bit more time in the summer to get things ready for the fall.

This bright colorful frame will be a hit for the kids and the parents. Doesn't it frame that adorable face just perfectly?

I love this bulletin board because it's not too difficult to do. It's 3 dimensional. And it's bright and cheerful. Keep your eyes open for the dollar racks at fabric stores. You can get great prints to use as your background on your bulletin boards, as shown below.

This pennant looks cute and eye catching, too!

School's Out Blog Blowout!

I'm participating in a fun blog hop that Sarah from Kovescence of the Mind is hosting. I hope you all jump in and join us because not only can you find out about some cool things, but you can also enter to win a $100.00 gift card to TPT.

To win, all you need to do is read on!

My daughter (who is also a teacher) went to a math training that was hosted by Author Nicki Newton. She came home and told me all about it. I was very intrigued by a new phrase she used. "Running Records for Math."

That sounded like a great thing and certainly something I could use. So I bought the book and am just starting to read it.

Since I haven't finished it yet, I thought I'd include the summary that Amazon has.
In this new book from popular consultant and bestselling author Dr. Nicki Newton, you’ll discover how to use Math Running Records to assess students’ basic fact fluency and increase student achievement. Like a GPS, Math Running Records pinpoint exactly where students are in their understanding of basic math facts and then outline the next steps toward comprehensive fluency. This practical book introduces a research-based framework to assess students’ thinking and move them toward becoming confident, proficient, flexible mathematicians with a robust sense of numbers.
Topics include:
  • Learning how often to administer Math Running Records and how to strategically introduce them into your existing curriculum;
  • Analyzing, and interpreting Math Running Records for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division;
  • Using the data gathered from Math Running Records to implement evidence-based, research-driven instruction.
  • Evaluating students’ speed, accuracy, flexibility, and efficiency to help them attain computational fluency;
Each chapter offers a variety of charts and tools that you can use in the classroom immediately, and the strategies can easily be adapted for students at all levels of math fluency across grades K-8. Videos of sample running records are also available for download at https://guidedmath.wordpress.com/math-running-records-videos.

I'm excited to dig into this in the next few weeks.

For one week, you can grab this FREEBIE!

This is a bundled set, so you get both the color and
black and white sets together. Please remember to leave some quality feedback after grabbing it. It's very important to me to hear your thoughts.
