Nonsense Word Practice and Valentine Jokes plus a giveaway!

Hello Everyone,

I've been busy digging up old files and trying to update some things I made last year before I had a store.

Since Valentine's Day is fast approaching, and you just may want to get some things around well before it gets here so you can work on them, I decided to post some to my store today.

First I like to put jokes up through out the year on the kid's lockers.

They love to read, and who doesn't like to read a good joke. I consider it a good thing if a child reads a joke and can laugh at it too! That tells me they have good comprehension skills.

These jokes are perfect for 2nd graders. But your better readers in first grade or even 3rd and up would like them.  You can see more about them here.

Just copy them, laminate them, then cut them up. Tape the color heart on top of the black and white one at the top of the heart. Tape them to the lockers or anywhere they can be seen by the kids.

Students read the joke, and lift it up to read the answer.

Then sit back and wait for them to come and tell you the funny ones!

Another activity that I'm posting is to practice with contractions. I know that this is nothing new. But with the Valentine theme, it fits this time of year and is cutsy to look at as they practice matching the boy with two words with the girl holding the contraction that matches.  You can pick these up here

Both of the these two are made using the clip art and fonts from DJ Inkers.

And finally I am teaching some first graders to practice making nonsense words. So I made up this set of cards to do just that! The students will mix these all up then try to make as many different nonsense words as they can. You can see these here.

If you're still here, I'd like to give 5 of these away. Leave me a comment, and tell me which one would be best for you. Leave me your email address. I will pick 5 winners tomorrow night. Good luck! I hope  you win!

Contractions, My first thing to sell! + a giveaway

Middle of the summer. . . . what have I done?

hmmmm? well I certainly have had a lot of fun. . . .

Eating, walking about 4 miles a day with my sister, gardening, watering, eating, watering, and spending time with family. . . and oh, a little more eating!

And of course I spent a lot of time holding that new baby in our family!

My daughter is on her way back to Houston today, so I need to push myself to get things done that I know I'll be mad if they DON'T get done by the time September rolls around.

So today I completed my FIRST thing to SELL on Teacher's Pay Teachers. I haven't a clue as to how well this will do, and I don't know how much money will come in from this. So many of you have been singing the praises of TPT, so I'm ready to take that gamble!

I made a Contraction Spelling activity. Click on the title to go to it. I hope you all remember how you struggled to price your first thing you sold. That's where I'm at. I priced it at $2.50 for 7 pages.  Changed my mind! I'm selling it for $1.75. . . see, I'm wishy washy and that seemed too high! I hope that price is better!

This activity teaches kids to look at 4 different spellings of a contraction and to decide which one is the correct spelling. I hope you love it like it!

I've watched so many of you give away teasers so I think I'd like to start with one too. I will give away this activity for FREE, (yup that means no money exchanged between the two of us!) to the first 3 people who can guess my favorite number. You'll just have to believe me when I tell you what it is, since there isn't any way to prove it to you. . . . sort of. .. . But anyway, leave me a comment with your guess and your email address. Here's a clue:  It's between 1 and 15. So guess away and come back and check tomorrow afternoon and I'll award the winners.

Contractions

I am so happy happy happy! I did it! I was able to attach a picture AND it really opens to share with you! Now I know how all of you feel when you figure something out! Thanks to the video that Hadar from Miss Kindergarten shared. I think I watched it about 15 times before I got it down to a science! Now we'll see if I can EVER do this again! I hope someone reads this and takes a look at my contractions. If you like it, let me know. .  if it needs something let me know that too. Muah! Thanks for all the support I received to make this work!
