End of the Year Gift for Your Students

Today I'm posting a flashlight poem that I posted a few years ago. This is for anyone who might have missed it before. It was a big hit for my kids and other teachers, so I wanted to share it again.

Reading in your bed is ok,
but when you have a flashlight to use,
it's even more fun!

Reading under the covers is cooler with a flashlight.
Reading under the kitchen table is
better than sitting in a chair! Just think of all the possible dark places you could read if you had a flashlight.

I hope this sheds some light on your student's reading!

In honor of DJ Inkers Teacher Appreciation Sale, I'm having a giveaway of some very cool stuff. . . some of their stuff and some of mine.

KEEP READING! Don't stop until you get to the end!

I want to tell you about something I made with their clipart.

Click the picture to go to my store.

This gives your kiddos lots of hands on practice with measuring in centimeters, inches, and non-standard units. This activity is good for kinders through some 3rd graders. Homeschoolers and Special Education classes might benefit from it too.
Here are a few samples of the pages.

There are 4 pages per month and 8 things to measure per month. Your kids can measure them each month, each season, or all at one time. Your choice.

Here are some pics of my own kiddos measuring with inches.

You can hang these around the room so the kids can get up and move. Or you can put one on each desk and use it as a scoot game. In these pictures, I'm working with  4 kids in my teeny tiny room, but we made it work.

You can win Measuring All Year by just entering my rafflecopter.

But you can also win a complete set of all the clipart used in this product (and more, because there are over 400 pieces of color and black and white).

That's right DJ Inkers is giving one winner the Clipart called Kids All Year. The winner will receive a downloadable file that's yours forever!

I know you will love the clipart in this download. There's something for every month that is absolutely adorable!

Good luck!

Finding the Clipart That You're Looking For

Have you ever had a hard time finding a piece of clipart, but can't seem to find it or don't know if you have such a piece of clip art?

I do that all the time. My friend Alix Spears just showed me a quick way to find what I'm looking for. I was amazed! It was so easy and so simple. I may be the only one who doesn't know how to do this. But just in case I'm not and just in case YOU want to know how to find those clip art pieces you're looking for, you will need to read on.
(You might even want to share this with other friends who are having the same problem.)

I keep all my clipart in an external hard drive (on my computer it is listed as My Passport (E:) Each artist has their own file. That's the way I chose to store mine. Some people put all their clip art in one file. You can choose to store them in the way that fits your style best.

First, I go to the file where I store my DJ Inkers clip art, for example.
In the right hand corner is a search box.

(Who knew that's always been there?)

I was looking for a ruler the other day,
so I typed in the word ruler in the search box.

What do you know?  This list opened up to show me where I could find those rulers. I had rulers in 4 different places!
(Only some of them are shown here in this picture)

Then I had to try this with other clipart groups that I have.
I wanted to prove that this works for all of my clipart.

So, I went to Krista Wallden's Creative Clipart.

I searched for cars
I wasn't even sure if she had any cars in the clip art that I owned.

Sure enough! A short list opened to show me that I did have some cars in her clip art that I owned.

If you have your clip art stored in one or two places, you will be able to find what you're looking for.  I hope this helps you find the pieces that you're looking for.

I'd love to hear if you already knew this or if you learned something new from this!

April Pinterest - Pick 3

It's APRIL! That means only one thing. . . we have survived WINTER!

Many of you are on spring break this week and maybe you have some extra time to browse through Pinterest to find some things to do this month. Easter was last month, so the things that I found really center more around EARTH DAY or just colorful fun things. Hopefully the white snowy stuff is gone until next winter. Let's push forward to bright sunshine and colors!

I'm joining with my friends from Pawsitively TeachingJust Reed, and Inspired Owl's Corner to share my top 3 April Picks. I hope you find something fun for yourself. Be sure to go to their blogs and see many other fun picks from other teachers.

I'm a sucker for handprint artwork. This is so cool and makes me smile! Imagine shrinking these and making them into note cards. Wouldn't that be neat!
Click on the picture to go to this activity.

Kids love to pick flowers and weeds to give as gifts for teachers. Why not take those gifts and make them into art? Here's a simple way to do that.

I am a pack rat! I save cardboard egg cartons. I have a nice collection of them. NOW this is something I can do with them and what a great idea to teach children about nurturing. With this project they can  learn how to take care of something that is their very own to treasure.

Click on the picture to go to this activity.

I hope you found some fun things to do and if not, please go visit some of the many blogs listed below. You will love what you see. And could you please do one more thing? Please leave some nice comments at each blog you stop and look at. We love sharing with you, but it sure feeds our hearts to hear your kind words too.
Happy Spring!

Vowel Teams Giveaway!

I have just the thing that you might want to own.

My Vowel Teams Sweep is a lot of fun for your kids to play
and learn more about vowel teams.

For YOU and just you, I am going to give away a completed set.

That means you will get 72 cards already copied in color, laminated, cut, and even put into a bag so that when you receive it, you can put it to work immediately!

It doesn't get much easier than that!

This picture above shows what you will get. The game is played by putting all the cards face down in a pile. The students turn over one card. If they can read both words they get to keep that card. The student with the most cards in the end wins. You can play with 2 - 6 players.

BUT. . . . there are some tricky cards that could change how many cards they have. One card says to grab more cards. One card says to put all your cards back in the pile. Another card tells you to trade all your cards with any player. YIKES!

Would you like to have this set?  Then just enter the rafflecopter. If you can't wait to win it, you can buy it here

But wait! There's more.

I will also give away a set of this product that you can print and laminate for yourself.
That means there will be two winners. That's double the fun!

Once the winner is chosen, I will email them and get their mailing address so I can mail it to them. So don't forget to leave your email address.

Good luck! I hope you win!
